Medical Scientist

Duties and Responsibilities: Medical scientists run trial procedures on volunteer test groups or individual subjects to see how drugs interact with the patients. They discover new methods of enhancing human health. They come up with new treatment options, drugs and also vaccines. Medical scientists perform research specimens, then regularly perform reviews and write reports of their findings during the process. In a normal week 40 hours of work are common, but during long research projects odd and long hours are expected.  


Salary: $93,730


Education: To become one you typically require a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or an M.D. instead. Before that they need to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in biology or in another medical health related major. In addition to that you require an exam by the medical scientist for a license.


Demand: Employment growth has been projected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to be  8% from 2014-2024.

After researching this career I am not sure I would like to pursue it. It does pay well but I don’t think I would do it because it has too much schooling. I would only do a lot of schooling for a career I really want to do and this is not it.
